Welcome to the "Minor Emancipation" section of FindLaw's Family Law Center. In family cases, "emancipation" (also called "divorce from parents") refers to a court process through which a minor can become legally recognized as an independent adult. This section provides information on minor emancipation. (Note: Minor emancipation is not an option in a number of states.)
